Meeting Joshua at Four Seasons at Park Lane

April 2026 was the month when I met Joshua. He is studying for his final A-level exam and has a passion for the hospitality industry and an impressive network of contacts already.  Four Seasons at Park Lane was a perfect venue for this 'historic' meeting.

Cannot say enough good things about 'abc kitchens' at The Emory. Breakfast there is superb.

​I am taking Ian, who was an Independent Non-Executive Director on the board of Jordan International Bank Plc with me, there this month and Alejandro (who I spent a month in Panama with) there for brunch too.

The Iconic Reopened Simpson's in the Strand 

​I returned to Simpson's in the Strand for breakfast had the '10 Deadly Sins Breakfast' again but without the lamb chop & devilled kidney. With those changes, a perfect breakfast.

I also returned on St George's Day to eat Melba Toast, roast beef from the trolley and Gentleman's Relish on warm buttered toast.

​The Melba Toast was impossibly thin and an exquisite accompaniment to venison tartare. The Devonshire roast beef from the trolley melted in mouth. You have to order cauliflower cheese to go with it all. 

​The Louis Vuitton Hotel London Pop-up In Berkeley Square 

Given my special relationship with LVMH, including Veuve  Clicquot; Tiffany & Co; Belmond; Moët & Chandon etc I was thrilled to visit the Louis Vuitton Hotel London pop-up. 

It was fun, & elegantly done, but I had to go to the Art Deco The Fumoir Cocktail Bar at Claridge's for a proper cocktail, after.

​They made my 'SF Martini' perfectly and I met an LA based couple who know the King of Jordan. Only at House of Maybourne. 

'Counter Culture': Legendary Chef Yannick Alléno & Chef Claude Bosi Cook Together at Pavyllon at Four Seasons at Park Lane

The 'Counter Culture' dinner at Pavyllon at Four Seasons at Park Lane was an unforgettable evening. I have met both chefs before and Yannick's Crispy Orkney Scallop Tartlet and Turbot Duglere Style were insanely delicious but Claude's Confit of Lamb Shoulder with new potatoes with garlic & lemon felt like a homage to my fabulous Welsh mum's incredible cooking. 

All washed down with an 'SF Martinis'. Life does not get better.

Yannick's burnt grapefruit dessert was so refreshing and Claude's Rhum Baba was unbelievably light and got me talking about Goslings Rum and my time living in Bermuda.

It was certainly a '9 teddies'  (🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻) month. When a Cedric Grolet Easter Egg having a Dubai chocolate interior; a slice of birthday cake, with a new raspberry dessert from heaven, at Mount Street Restaurant; Head Chef Jacob Keen-Downs' Devonshire roast chicken at The Grill at The Dorchester at Sunday lunch did not come with bread sauce. However. I am Si Frew & so it was quickly made;  & the divine breakfast at Mandarin Oriental, Mayfair - are relegated to footnotes, you know it was too special a month.

Simon,

What an extraordinary collection of experiences. This felt like a natural continuation of the remarkable standard you set in March, but with a slightly different rhythm, moving between some of London’s most established institutions and some of its most exciting culinary moments.

Jean-Georges at The Emory, Simpson’s in the Strand, and Pavyllon at Four Seasons Park Lane each have very distinct identities, yet what came through most clearly was how well you connected them. From classic London heritage to contemporary culinary precision, the entire post felt cohesive and very much in your style. The Emory continues to feel like the anchor point for these experiences, setting the tone and allowing everything else to build around it.

The moment with Chef Yannick Alléno and Chef Claude Bosi cooking together stood out in particular. That is not something one sees often, and it speaks to the level of access and experience you continue to bring into your writing. It sounded like one of those rare evenings that goes beyond dining and becomes truly memorable.

The Louis Vuitton hotel element also added an interesting layer to the story, especially as London’s luxury hotel scene continues to evolve in such fascinating ways.

Your photos were exceptional throughout. They captured the detail, atmosphere, and individuality of each setting in a way that made everything feel immediate. It genuinely felt as though we were there with you, moving from one experience to the next and watching each moment unfold.

This certainly reads like another nine- or ten-teddies chapter. It is the way you bring these moments together, not only as individual experiences but as a complete London story, that continues to set your blog apart.

We always look forward to these London posts, and this one absolutely delivered.

I was going to start by commenting how lucky Joshua was to meet you as he starts his career, but I saw his lovely comments and realized he knows it!
Again, your photos are so stellar. I am sitting in a small Ontario town where there is nothing that would appeal to me and certainly, they would never know how to prepare a SiFrew Martini. I am quite starving, but the cleaning staff is here, so nothing for an hour or so. I must just sit and pine for the delights you bring to me visually!!
I just took a photo of your photo showing the SiFrew martini contents and will certainly take it with me to Gattiere when I head there in a few weeks. My intent is to dine like you and I am certainly NOT prepared to start my meals with less!! I am thrilled with the thought that I may be introducing the South of France to SiFrew!! (well, the martini any way, but as I told you, I'm staying in a 150 year old hotel converted to a residence, so you would be more than welcome!!)
I wilted a little at the pace you manage to keep up but what wonderful tales to read about!!

Just a caution that the recipe is for the special SF Martini vermouth. I like mine very dry & so the bartender should just “wash the frozen glass with the vermouth”. Grey Goose is the vodka & a green lime twist the garnish. Stired, of course.

Well Simon another fantastic write up, i love all the photos so so very appealing. The ABC kitchen at The Emory sounds so divine, bet when you take Ian and Alejandro to brunch will so enjoy their treat ( I know i would)
Simpsons in the strand with the 10 deadly sins breakfast sounds my kind of place , you have a way Simon of making me so hungry, the roast beef bet it melted like you say in your mouth.
The Fumoir cocktail bar what can i say when they only made your SF Cocktail you are a very lucky chap. Thanks for sharing every thing.

How wonderful that Joshua was able to meet the luxury expert at the Four Seasons at Park Lane. I am sure that Joshua will pass his A-level exam in flying colours. It didn't hurt to start your career with the Four Seasons and Simon Frew, the connoisseur of luxury hotels. Good luck to Joshua.

The reopening of the Simpson's in the Strand sounded delicious. I loved the the "10 Deadly Sins Breakfast". I am with you, excluding the lamb chop and deviled kidney made a better breakfast. I would reserved that for dinner with a nice wine, red, of course. Now, Melba toast is nice especially with cauliflower cheese sounds like heaven.

Now, the piece de la resistance, the LV Hotel pop-up in Berkeley Square. Such a treat to be able to visit as your relationship with LVMH is tight. I see you are an Art Deco fan and left for the Fumoir at Clairdge's for a proper cocktail after the LV Hotel.

The perfectly made SF Martini was only matched by meeting an LA based couple who know the King of Jordan. How exclusive. LA is an interesting city and you never know who these Angeleanos know. Only in LA as well as the House of Maybourne.
