We spent 8 nights staying at Mandarin Oriental, New York. This speaks volumes regarding my high regard for this iconic Manhattan hotel that I have been staying in for more than 20 years. Astonishing Staff From Lucas at the pool; to Polat & Alex in the MO Lounge, all the staff at Mandarin Oriental, New York kept astonishing me. Mind-Blowing Concierges The fact Mandarin Oriental, New York's concierges could get me a reservation at The Blue Box Cafe by Daniel Boulud at Tiffany & Co, at the last minute, dumbfounded me. Unforgettable Memories I was so glad I ended my unbelievable trip at this very special hotel. The teddy cake tasted even better than it looked, light and creamy, and drinking Veuve Clicquot champagne in my suite, looking out at the awe-inspiring views, with my best friend in New York was magical. Exceptional Suite 5016 Miss those astonishing views from my corner suite on the 50th floor and its Japanese toilet but have Diptyque bath products, Issy's framed outfit & Issy's elegant new outfit to help me remember it all. Restaurants. Avoid; Must Do & Do on a Different Evening Bad Roman - giving us 'free' Perrier-Jouet champagne did not make up for the long wait for our table, in an overcrowded area. The garlic babka (bread) and innovative lemon cheesecake were outstanding but rest of our food uninspiring. My recommendation is to ignore the hype & avoid Bad Roman. The Bazaar by Jose Andres - we were shocked by quite how good the food was here. How does this Chef have time to produce cotton candy/ candy floss, & pork, this mouthwatering, while helping in earthquake & war zones? The Bazaar by Jose Andres at The Ritz-Carlton, New York, NoMad is a must visit. The Peak - on my last evening we were on the 101st floor. A foggy evening meant there was no view for most of the meal. However, front of house Michael, waitress Marie and the complimentary 'Creamy Farro' we were given made it a perfect experience, despite all this. Be aware there may not be a view at The Peak at Hudson Yard. I have tried to keep this write-up brief. When you meet me, feel free to ask about aspects & photos that are not explained. This really was a 'Trip of a Lifetime' and Mandarin Oriental, New York rated '7 teddies' (🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻) and was everything I had hoped for. Tip: order the Chinese Egg Noodle Soup (with chicken & shrimp wontons, char-siu pork, eggs etc) from room service at least once during your stay. When it arrives, talk to the room service staff, they will brighten up your day. | |
