My first day in New York could not have been better. It started with breakfast at Aman, Manhattan. This hotel's restaurants are still not open to the public but they made an exception for www.sifrew.com again. Aman's Arva Restaurant 'Arva Restaurant' was a perfect place to spend a few jet lagged hours. I was impressed they had a paper copy of The Wall Street Journal and I adored chatting to Kathy, who manages that restaurant, about Hong Kong etc The icing on this special cake was being told there was no charge for breakfast. Strip House on 44th Street After wandering around snowy and icy Manhattan, lunch was at Strip House. This restaurant used to be part of Michael Jordan's steak empire and so I had to visit it. A New York strip steak, & a martini, was just what I needed. The Towers of The Lotte New York Palace It was then time to check-in to The Lotte New York Palace. I had been upgraded to their Towers and was transfixed by my view of St Patrick's Cathedral from the 47th floor. Brenda, Director of Front of the House, sent me wine & a sumptuous charcuterie board. The Jazz Club: Brian Newman's Performance Was a Highlight of My Trip Before I knew it it was time to return to The Aman, Manhattan. The Jazz Club has a separate 'speakeasy' entrance on a different street to the hotel. As soon as Brian Newman took to the stage he charisma and ability to engage the audience were clear. He sang Cole Porter, welcomed me by name and got the audience to sing along. It felt like New Year's Eve. I left on a huge high, only to meet Brian outside and have a captivating chat with him. Four Seasons, Manhattan. Closed But Far From Forgotten At the end of the evening I walked past sad & dejected Four Seasons, Manhattan. Four Seasons at Park Lane staff tell me this hotel is recruiting again and so I hope it will reopen. Trust this post will evidences why it was a '7 teddies' (🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻) first day in New York. Tip: The Jazz Club has a elevator, if the stairs are too much for you. | |
