I had to post my photo of the Tat Kuang Si waterfalls, where I swam. They sum up Laos for me "incredible & far better than I expected".
After dinner in Khaiphaen, a brilliant restaurant run by the TREE Alliance, a charity that helps 'street kids', I headed to Icon Klub bar for a second time.
Lisa the owner, & mixologist, is such an incredible person I had to return to this bar.
The BelleRive Boutique Hotel is close to the the centre of UNESCO World Heritage Site Luang Prabang, by the Mekong River.
This sophisticated boutique hotel is in a 1920s building that was formerly the mayor's residence. Over the road from the hotel is the hotel's restaurant, on a terrace on the banks of the Mekong River.
Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao, Luang Prabang is one of the most luxurious (and expensive) hotel in Laos. Until 2014 Belmond was called Orient Express and still runs the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train, as well places like Raymond Blanc's Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in Oxfordshire, the Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice (where I have had dinner) and the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town (where I have had tea). I stayed at the Belmond Copacabana Palace in Rio again last year and had coffee with their General Manager, Andrea Natal.
Si Frew has lived in the UK, Bermuda, Qatar, Cyprus & the Cayman Islands. During this time he met Whoopi Goldberg (in Claridge's), Mike Tyson (in the Concorde Lounge at JFK) , Gordon Ramsay (in the Doha Four Seasons), Chris Eubanks (in The Dorchester), Cherie Blair (in Bermuda & again in the Doha Four Seasons) etc. There are funny stories attached to all these interactions, feel free to ask Si about them when you meet him.
