Their staff were excellent but a neighborhood where emergency vehicle sirens seemed to be almost constant until 4am, and one of the only two elevators being out of service, leading to unacceptably long delays, meant this was not the right hotel for someone who is almost 50 coming from quiet Cayman Islands. However, breakfast in Dirty French the next morning was a different story.
I should also mentioned this was the first time I had made a booking via Mr & Mrs Smith, despite being unimpressed by a review they posted of Song Saa Private Island, it did not sound like the reviewer had actually visited the same place I had been to in Cambodia. However, I did not feel they improved my experience and so will not be using them again. I am sorry about this because my parents know Tamara Lohan's VIP relative (Sir Algernon Heber-Percy KCVO) in Shropshire.
The Welcome in Dirty French I arrived in Dirty French shortly after it opened on Sunday at 7am. I was welcomed in a subdued way, and told to pick my own table, which was perfect, after my 'rough night'. The Menu, Truffles & the Espresso Machine I was a little disappointed there was nothing involving truffles on the menu but I picked the Ludlow Egg Sandwich, a double espresso and fresh orange juice. I was told the espresso machine still needed cleaning and so there would be a 30 minute wait for this. We agreed I would be brought a regular coffee, while waiting for this. The Ludlow Egg Sandwich The Ludlow Egg Sandwich came with jambon, Gruyere cheese and was surrounded by my first 'inverted croissant'. With a béchamel sauce & mayonnaise, it was deliciously rich warm breakfast dish which the fresh tomatoes cut through with cool acidity perfectly. One of the best breakfast dishes I have had for some time. My Double Espresso My double espresso then arrived and I savoured drinking it while reading the Weekend Financial Times (printed for me by Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman) and answered messages from Jane (a Guest Relations Manager at Eleven Madison Park, where I was having Sunday lunch that day). Please Look After This Bear Rather ironically I left my Paddington from Four Seasons at Park Lane in 'Dirty French' and was rung, very quickly, about this. 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻(a 6 ‘teddy’ breakfast as part of a 3 'teddy' hotel stay) - the Ludlow Egg Sandwich was a culinary masterpiece. This, & the charming staff, gained the relaxed Sunday breakfast at 'Dirty French' 6 'teddies'. My tip:- make sure to check when your ESTA visa waiver expires! |
