This sophisticated boutique hotel is in a 1920s building that was formerly the mayor's residence. Over the road from the hotel is the hotel's restaurant, on a terrace on the banks of the Mekong River.
Damian Killer, the young Swiss General Manager of the hotel, has been so friendly & helpful to me, and his staff were so good when I had lunch at The BelleRive Boutique Hotel, that I decided I must return for breakfast. I had also read that their Terrace has the best breakfast views in Luang Prabang. The Terrace The stunning Terrace was empty, other than my charming, and infectiously happy, waiter Chan. The Terrace is shaded by large Tamarind trees and a beautiful space with elegant nautical style furniture. Breakfast I picked the 'Belle Rive Brunch' option with an omelette, Lao coffee and a smoothie. The food arrived quickly but ordering a plain omelette was a mistake by me. It was too bland but the crispy bacon that came with it was excellent. Tamarind Jam Just like with the Tamarind martini I had at Sofitel's 3 Nagas in Luang Prabang, the Tamarind jam was only OKish but interesting to try. However, the croissant and baguette were another story, you could tell a French bakery was involved, they were a joy. Lao Coffee with Condensed Milk I should have known, but was still disappointed, to find the Lao coffee came with condensed milk at the bottom. However, Vone from the staff came to chat with me again and explained the trick for Westerners was to only partially stir up the condensed milk, so the coffee does not get overly sweet. This made it better than the last time I had it but I am still far from a fan. Vone Vone is another member of staff who was infectiously happy and so proud to work for the hotel. We talked about Issy & 'the gang' and she showed me photos of other customers with their various 'travelling companions'. We had such a laugh. 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻 (6 out of 5 ‘teddies’) - the stunning view, the incredible French bread & croissant, the delicious fresh fruit and the charming staff got this breakfast an extra 'teddy'. My tip: if you get a chance, chat to Vone, she will make your day. | |
