Dealings with 'We Are Shadow', a New York based third-party who the hotel outsources social media relations to, left this Social Media Influencer confused and angry. However, just before my New York trip a breakfast & meeting with the hotel MD & COO (a form of GM) was arranged and it was too good a chance to pass up.
I was so glad I went. Hermann, the MD & COO, is a polished New York hotel professional who is a joy to spend time with and the hotel has a luxury/monied/stylish feel that I adored.
www.sifrew.com's Arrival I got to the hotel, just over the road from the Museum of Modern Art ('MoMa'), just before 8:30am. I nodded to a guy leaving the hotel, who looked like a luxury hotel GM. It later turned out to be Hermann. An Exquisite Breakfast in the Grand Salon The 'Grand Salon' is on the 2nd floor of the hotel. I was greeted by warm smiles and taken to a window table. I ordered a double espresso and sparkling water with ice and then took in the room, while I waited for these. With 22 foot high ceilings, a '64 arm' Baccarat chandelier in the center of the room and 'balls' of red roses it would be difficult not to be impressed. My double espresso was served in a glass. I was not keen when Four Seasons Downtown served coffee in a glass cup but drinking out of Baccarat crystal was very different. I was almost disappointed that the Baccarat glass on the table was not more ostentatious but the ice coming in a 'bucket' with the same design as the whisky glasses I found for my brother in Bermuda, thrilled me. My Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon was a perfect combination. of rich creamy saltiness and the presentation was exquisite. I was surround my guests speaking Russian & French felt I was in a true jet set world with young children requesting the checks etc A Piece of the Cote d'Azur in Manhattan Next I went to check out the hotel's 15 meter pool in the world's only spa by La Mer. It is intend to be reminiscent of the Cote d'Azur with cabanas, a checkered marble floor and blue water. It does look very inviting (despite no windows in the basement level spa) but I only had time to take photos with Issy & his Four Seasons Bali at Jimbaran Bay surf board, wearing his Cuba necklace. Another Double Espresso with their Polished MD & COO in the Petit Salon I met Hermann in the 'Petit Salon'. I got there early and so could admire the museum quality crystal on display in this room. When Hermann arrived we chatted easily. He explain the French glass & restaurant company are owned, and run, entirely separately from the US hotel group. The hotel only has 114 rooms & suites and only one out of every 5 guests using the hotel facilities is staying at the hotel. My time with Hermann flew by. We ended by discussing outsourcing social media relations and Hermann commented it was an unusual (and not ideal) arrangement and the way I had been treated in email exchanges would have been different if his office had been involved. My kind of hotel guy. 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻(7 out of 5 ‘teddies’) - visiting Baccarat Hotel New York is definitely a '7 teddy' experience and I would stay there just to swim in their pool and admire the red roses. My tips:- try to meet MD & COO Hermann, study the various Baccarat crystal in detail and try their bar with ceilings modeled on the stables at Versailles! |
