At JFK the Club World check-in at British Airways Terminal 7 is in a separate area with no queues.
There is also a separate security tunnel but too many customers are using this these days and there was a 10 minute wait. On the walk to the lounges I was thrilled to find a Mont Blanc shop. The staff there were very helpful about my fineliner refill. Club World Lounge I was shocked to see how busy the Club World lounge was. Staff were finding it difficult to keep items like the sandwiches stocked and no champagne was on offer. However, I found a seat, got some very good split pea & ham soup, read the Financial Times and drank sparkling water. On the Plane On the plane I realised it was a 747 and I had not requested a seat upstairs. However, the configuration is so good anyway I did not ask for a change. We were given champagne before takeoff and Elemis wash bags. After takeoff there were hot towels, I got some Buck's Fizz and watched Absolutely Fabulous. A perfect way to start a flight. Dinner was then served. The mint crème fraîche and chicken worked well with some bread but l left the aubergine. The beef main course was cooked perfectly and was delicious with the Wasabi mash, which tasted of Wasabi but not in an overpowering way. The meal ended with delicious truffle cheddar. During dinner I drank Taittinger champagne and watched Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, which I loved. The large number of crew members were all cheerful and could not do enough for you. Finally I got a few hours of very good sleep with the flat bed, cotton pillow and blanket. I woke about an hour before landing and just got some water. We landed 20 minutes early just before 6am. Heathrow Terminal 5 It was a long journey to Immigration but my biometric passport meant things were quick once I got there and my luggage was already on the carousel. The Arrivals Lounge In the Arrivals Lounge I got a cooked breakfast and then used the flawless WiFi to work on www.sifrew.com, before getting a refreshing shower. All perfect way to feel human again after a 6 hour night flight. 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻 (5 out of 5 ‘teddies’) - the cheerful and helpful crew, the slightly pink beef, a few hours of good sleep and the Arrivals Lounge get this flight full marks. My tips: request a seat upstairs if you are flying Club World on a 747, seat 63J is the best. If you have time, use the excellent Arrivals Lounge. | |
