This hotel is back to cutting edge Four Seasons perfection with a reinvigorated staff and a new light & airy look in the 366 guest rooms/suites.
An awesome '7 teddy' stay and so good to leave the region with such incredible memories.
The www.sifrew.com Welcome In years gone by managers used to wait in the snow to welcome me at Four Seasons Midtown New York. On this occasion new General Manager Rudy, exquisite chocolates and a Grey Goose martini quickly appeared. We were all soon talking about weddings in Sao Paulo, armed guards etc and I felt at home very quickly. Only at Four Seasons It was only noon and I did not feel like drinking the martini at reception and so Sharon (Director of Rooms) brought it on a tray in the elevator to my room. An elderly couple in the elevator were clearly fascinated by what was going on. A View of The Plaza & Central Park The new look of my corner room on the 26th floor took my breath away. Large & so light, airy and simple, with stunning views of The Plaza & Central Park and Sharon was charming to chat with while I took all this in. Perfect Welcome Gifts A Four Seasons Midtown New York security pass had been left for Issy. This, & a bottle of Veuve Clicquot for this Brand Ambassador, almost made me cry. All this thought & attention to detail. Four Seasons George V type Four Seasons service. Ty (Warner) Bar & Olga I was soon at the Ty Bar in the hotel sending messages to the Four Seasons Hong Kong & Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens GMs about our times at Four Seasons New York. Next I chatted to a customer who was from Saudi, being interested that the bar has an Arabic speaking member of staff. Just after 6pm my favourite bartender, Olga, came on duty. I loved her new hairstyle and is so brilliant to chat with. Less Expensive is Not Always Worse That evening, after such a disappointing evening in Gramercy Tavern the night before, we ate at Land of Plenty on 58th Street. A Chinese restaurant on the same street as the Four Seasons. I have eaten at the same venue when it served different food. In its current 'incarnation' it is not much to look at, service is odd/quirky but the food was excellent. However, it was my New York real estate friend's company that really makes any evening. We met for three evenings running in New York and it was laugh after laugh. We have know each other for almost 20 years and he is the best company. Shrewsbury in New York At the end of the evening I returned to the Ty Bar in the hotel to see Olga but ended up chatting to a lawyer from Zurich before two guys from India. It turned out the one who lives in Delhi sent his sons to Shrewsbury School, where I also went. What a way to end a perfect day. A Bed from Heaven Back at my room I began to appreciate my king sized lighted pedestal bed with custom linens even more. It was a piece of heaven and one of the best beds I have slept in. After a Perfect Night's Sleep After an incredible night's sleep, the bed/custom linens felt like sleeping amounts clouds, I found the Weekend Financial Times outside and ordered a room service breakfast. The hotel was busy and it took several calls before I could order my breakfast. The Best Place to Get Your Shoes Polished While waiting for breakfast I sent my Rio Ferragamo shoes out to be polished. This hotel always makes my shoes look like new again. A Sensational Breakfast with a View of Central Park I ate my creamy & rich Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon admiring the view of Central Park. Next I drank the hot chocolate with cream reading the Weekend Financial Times, before Sharon messaged offering me a late check-out. A Four Seasons New York Liquids Bag After a Bvlgari Vert shower in the vast Italian marble bathroom, I was thrilled to find an airport liquids bag with the hotel name on. I have not seen one of these since the Chicago Four Seasons. A Lobby that Cannot Fail to Impress I then went for a walk on 5th Avenue. On the way out the IM Pei designed lobby with its monumental pillars, soaring ceiling and 'garden' cannot fail to impress. Use of the 'House' Rolls-Royce Check-out is always sad when your stay has been this perfect but being given use of the 'house' Rolls-Royce certainly lifted my spirits. My face in the related photo says everything about how happy I was about my stay. I was off to the Lotte New York Palace again next. 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻(7 out of 5 ‘teddies’) - Four Seasons Midtown New York is undoubtedly a '7 teddy' hotel again. The IM Pei lobby has always taken your breath away but, since the refurbishment, the guest rooms/suites match this once more. With an excellent GM in Rudy, and staff like Sharon & Olga, this is really one of the world's legendary hotels again. My tips:- engage with Olga & ask if the 'house' Rolls-Royce is free for any short journey. | |
