It ended up being a dream stay there. The views and staff were incredible.

Perfect Welcome I was greeted by Esra at the ground floor reception. I checked in there and she took me up to my 41st floor room. We chatted about Paris and the Four Seasons George V on the way. The whole experience had a elegant Asian feel. My 41st Floor Room In my room was a further birthday cake; Romeo, a fox who is a new friend to add to 'the gang'; and a view of The Barbican, where I have a flat, and St Paul's, to die for. The bathroom had a Toto 'Japanese' toilet, the warm toilet seat seemed more useful in London than Ho Chi Minh City. The only negative point was Acqua di Parma bath products again. Pool on the 52nd Floor Next I went to swim in the stunning pool on 52nd floor and exchange messages with my former boss in Bermuda about the fact neither of us were keen on the food at Chiltern Firehouse. GONG on the 52nd Floor The London sunset was so incredible that evening I tried to go to GONG, the highest bar in Europe. However, I was told that there was a waiting list for window tables there and so went back to my room to drink Veuve Clicquot instead. Room Service Dinner I rang my dad and then got a room service dinner. The Caesar salad was OK but, for GBP16, I would have liked more anchovies and bacon. Next I had the Malasian fried rice. After all the incredible food I have eaten in the Far East this was a mistake and I found it a bit dry and uninteresting. After my birthday the day before, I got a sweet email from Darren (the hotel's General Manager) from Colombo and had an early night. Day Two I got an incredible night's sleep in the perfect bed. In the morning I pushed a button for the blinds to open and it felt like a Bond movie as the stunning view was revealed. Breakfast in TING I went down to breakfast on the 35th floor. There was an excellent buffet and a menu you could select freshly cooked dishes from. It was the prawn dim sum that I adored and also loved looking out over Tower Bridge. During breakfast I chatted to Wan and Moustafa Elgayar (the F&B Director) who used to work at Four Seasons Doha. When he found out it had just been my birthday, he sent a Buck's Fizz over. 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻(6 out of 5 ‘teddies’) - this is clearly another of the world's great hotels. The views and staff (including Claire the GM's PA) are what achieved the extra 'teddy' for this hotel. My Tip: pre-book a window table in GONG. |
