My dreamy light/rich scrambled eggs with black truffles, with a smell to die for. I have since stayed in a Carlos Suite at The Connaught and Nathalie Seiler-Hayez (the former General Manager) sent me champagne, after a problem with my brother's family in their Coburg Bar. I have quite a history with this legendary London hotel.
| The Welcome It was a miserable damp morning in London and I arrived looking like a drowned rat. I had intended to pick up my beautiful red Plaza Athenee Paris umbrella from The Berkeley hotel later that morning. Breakfast is served in Espelette, a light & bright venue off the dark lobby - with its imposing grand staircase. Black Truffles for Breakfast My personal trainer Bart is having influence over me and I picked scrambled eggs with black truffles, rather than the Full English breakfast. I was so pleased with my choice. The smell of truffles was intoxicating and it was a mouthwateringly light and creamy dish. My only moans would be the butter that came with the toast is nothing like the rich creamy butter at breakfast at Marco Pierre White's Wheeler's Bank and the loud contentious appraisal being conducted at a nearby table, which was painful to overhear & impossible to ignore. Staff in the restaurant were friendly, cheerful and perfectly attentive. 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻 (5 out of 5 ‘teddies’) - breakfast at The Connaught is relaxed luxury at its best and the excellent staff more than made up for the disappointing butter. My tips:- ask for a window table & order the truffles. | The impressive grand staircase, which is the first thing to hit you in the lobby and said to have been copied by Ralph Lauren, in his Madison Avenue flagship store. Issy, Azzi from Four Seasons Baku & Edouard from Plaza Athenee, Paris joined me for breakfast. |
